A nice video explaining the water problem in the world.

Close the tap – Aquafresh campaign
Today I found an interesting campaign by Aquafresh (the famous brand of toothpaste) aiming to lead people closing the tap while having a wash.
Looking at the website (unfortunately only in Italian) I discovered that:
- when we brush our teeth leaving the tap opened, we waste a total of 10 litres of water (5 l/min for 2 minutes);
- when we wash our hands and face, we waste 10 litres of water (5 l/min for 2 minutes);
- when we shave, we waste 25 litres of water (5 l/min for 5 minutes);
- a dripping tap causes a waste of 4800 litres of water per year;
Inequalities in water distribution, togheter with unsafe water, is one face of water-related problems.
As said in Human Development Report 2006 by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP):
While basic needs vary, the minimum threshold (of water consumption) is about 20 litres a day. Most of the 1.1 billion people categorized as lacking access to clean water use about 5 litres a day — onetenth of the average daily amount used in rich countries to flush toilets. On average, people in Europe use more than 200 litres — in the United States more than 400 litres. When a European person flushes a toilet or an American person showers, he or she is using more water than is available to hundreds of millions of individuals living in urban slums or arid areas of the developing world. Dripping taps in rich countries lose more water than is available each day to more than 1 billion people.
Maybe it’s time to close taps.
